Protecting against Natural Enemies and Risks
During the course of their evolution, insects have acquired the technique of taking on colors and forms similar to their neighbors (concealing coloration) in order to protect themselves from natural enemies. Some insects have gained some form of mechanism to produce poison or foul odors. Such insects have conspicuous coloration patterns (aposematic coloration) to threaten and ward off enemies. There are also insects protecting themselves by mimicking the color, bodily shape and behavior of actuallydangerous poison insects (mimetism).
