While amphibians were thriving, change was inevitable. A group appeared which had "skin" that could withstand dryness and laid eggs with resilient "shells." Reptiles had appeared. Reptiles successfully severed their ties with water, spread out far inland to live, and finally adapted to various environments with the exception of the polar- regions.
